Sam is a young british offshore sailor with his sights firmly set on the Vendee Globe.
Weeks after being born in Bristol he flew across the atlantic to live on a sailing yacht with the rest of his family. They lived on the boat for 8 years, based mainly in the Southern caribbean and then eventually settling down in a house in Grenada in 1999. After hurricane Ivan devastated Grenada in 2004, Sam moved back to boarding school in the UK where he finished off his GCSE’s and then A-Levels.
Back in the UK, Sam started taking his racing a lot more seriously and starting with some dinghy sailing and then some Match Racing where he became the UK RYA Youth National Match Racing Champion in 2008. With Blood for adventure he could never really keep away from the long distance offshore trips and managed to rack up 5 Atlantic and 1 Pacific crossing, RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Qualification, double-handed race around Britain and over 35,000 offshore miles.
After competing in the double-handed Round Britain Race in 2010 he was selected to join the Artemis Offshore Acedemy which let him join one of the top training centres in france for Offshore Racing, CEM, focusing on the Figaro class. As a result he won a Scholarship which allowed him to compete in the 2011 Figaro circuit. He then competed in the 2011 Transat Jacques Vabre on a Class 40 with Ned Collier Wakefield from Team Concise where, after 7 close days of racing they were forced to retire from the lead with structural failure to the hull. Shortly after returning to the UK he joined Conrad Colman on Cessna Citation as a last minute co-skipper for leg 2 of the Global Ocean Race from Cape Town to Wellington. After 7000miles and 31days at sea they arrived in 1st out of the 6 boat fleet.
