    SB3 Sailing at Farmoor.

For the past 10 days we have been packing in a lot of Match Racing practise and on Friday, Farmoor Reservoir got an SB3 which, we have spent the weekend sailing, working on our crew work. With light winds on Saturday and strong winds today, it ended up being a fairly ideal weekend to work on the crew work in a variety of winds. Even thought the-boats are asymmetric, unlike most match racing boats, they are great for upwind and fine-tuning our crew coordination.
Next weekend, we are going to do some more match racing training in Poole harbour with another youth team and a Cardiff University Match Racing team also. The Boats we are going to use are called R19’s and are a local class of about 30 in the area that are being lent to us. The have a closed cockpit but, are symmetric and a very similar length to the Elliots in Auckland so hopefully will prove to be very useful in our training. So, this should help us work on what we have missed this weekend, Pre-start and tactics as well as symmetric kite trimming and gybing.

Over the coming weeks, we are hoping that Farmoor will get another SB3 and then, the aim is to convert them to symmetric and invite a few teams so that we can train against them. Later in the year, i am also looking at plans to do more and more offshore races including the The Power Bar Three Peaks Yacht Race. I’ll keep you updated on any plans that develop.
